A sideways glance through foggy scope.
I just wanted to post a notice that I found a new real estate website by a commercial real estate agent. The site offers a search tool that is powered by Google maps and allows the site visitors to browse the agent’s properties. Just an observation I made and thought I would share.
Sure, some people have quirks that are worse than others. I wondered if my teeth clenching at the sound of “find us on the web at www.somegreatdomain.com(backslash)product” was a touch much or if I had company on my little ‘get it right’ island. So I did what I could to find out if anyone had blogged about this phenomenon.
For those that haven’t noticed or do not really care, I am talking about people from all walks of life stating that this –> / is a backslash when they pitch a URL (or URI - I’ll save this one for another post) in a commercial or whatever other reason they may be communicating a file path to someone. The truth is that is NOT a BACKslash it leans forward not backward.
I’m not kidding I have literally had a support technician call it a backslash when referring to a file location.
Anyway, I decided to find some others that had similar thoughts about this growing craze nearly as popular as drinking coffee from a Seattle-based company. I am happy to say I am not the only one that has noticed. Whew! Am I glad to see I am not as neurotic as I feared.
Here are some of the other pages explaining this widespread inaccuracy:

Well, after going such a long time without posting. I figured I better post about what I’ve been up to the last couple of months.
For the most part, I have been pretty busy with work on websites, graphic design, and adding content to my site. However, I have managed to squeeze in some additional education.
Adobe has been heavily promoting Actionscript 3.0. In case you aren’t aware, Actionscript 3 is the programming language used by Flash CS3 and Flex. (both of which are Adobe products)
I have been hitting the books to familiarize myself with this language. I am pretty excited about Actionscript 3.0 since it allows me to do all kinds of neat stuff with Flash. However, up to now I have been really wanting Adobe to include functionality for interacting with the file sytem. I perceive many benefits to having this functionality as it would allow me to build great applications for the desktop.
Now maybe I’ll be able to complete that project I’ve had rolling around in the back of my head. Anyway, nothing too exciting. I just thought I’d write a post today.
Whoa, the last part of April and first part of May have kept me pretty busy to say the least. I have been struggling just to keep up. However, I have managed to keep up and I think it is getting better.
In the midst of all the scrambling around I managed to begin the redesign of my web design company website; which is coming along nicely I would say. There is much to do yet and I will continue working to improve it over the course of time as my schedule permits.
Other than being very busy with the launch of some sites for clients and beginning new ones, I really haven’t much to comment on. Since that is the case, I’ll leave the post there. Until next time, see ya.
Listening to the news last Friday, one would have never guessed that it would work out like it did. Just to the North of where I live (Branson, MO) the ice was thick!
My wife travels for her job and was to fly into Springfield, MO Saturday. Needless to say, we were very interested in how the weather would develop. According to the local meteorologists, the ice storm was coming and it was to be a big one!
I personally had a hard time reconciling the forecast because it called for ice and dangerous travel conditions while at the same time predicting temperatures right around 30 degrees or so. Obviously I didn’t want to take the chance of getting out in the weather and being stranded so I stayed in.
I was extremely concerned, however, because my wife would still be traveling through the storm, landing in Springfield and then driving about 44 miles before she would be safe.
Saturday morning I waited and watched the rain fall nearly continuously without ever experiencing ice. In fact, the whole day was that way. Just North in Springfield, however, it was freezing and building up quickly.
To make a long story short, Springfield got buried and Branson got hardly anything. Springfield got so much ice, in fact, it took my wife literally an hour to get into her car. It was fully encased in ice.
In the end though, she made it home we didn’t get iced in and everything went fine.
I don’t ever remember seeing weather that different in two spots that close together. What a weekend!
In all reality, this post is nothing more than a last-ditch effort to get a post up for October. I have been busy taking care of existing sites and dealing with hosting issues created by “server upgrades”. I don’t understand why an upgrade makes every site on the server stop working, but that’s what happened. Anyway, I have noticed a difference in the speed of the sites now that the upgrade is complete.
Well that will do it for this nonsensical post about nothing particular. Now I’m back to work!
I recently did a design job on a small website that represents a construction company out of Hudson, New York. This company specializes in fireplace and/or chimney restoration and repair. While looking through the images supplied for the design work, I was amazed at how big a difference restoring the stone or brick on a firplace or chimney can make.
Of course, this company doesn’t limit their work to fireplace restoration. They construct stone walls, porches, and one job they did was for a lighthouse! It seems like a fascinating job. However, it seems like a lot of heavy work and I’m guessing a person in that area of work would need patience too. I guess it’s all in how you look at it.
Well, it’s been quite a while since my last post-although I doubt anyone really cares that much for a personal blog that this new.
Anyway, I have been working on some projects with by far the best programmer I have ever met. We have had some existing clients approach us wanting us to do some work for them, not to mention inquiries from others.
One was an agent in a Branson real estate office we have done work for in the past. She wondered if we could produce a site that would allow her real estate team to provide current information regarding Branson, MO condos. So, we just had to buckle down and construct BransonCondoHotline.com. She loved it, we’re happy with it, and all that is left is some of the actual page content that the agent is going to provide soon.
The other project, is for another realty office that will be new to the Branson area in September. I’ll try to remember to post a link to the site once it is completed.
I figured I better post today because tomorrow we have yet another project to get done. Anyway, nothing really as entertaining as my last post about the different methods for eating a taco, but, I just figured I would write something so all would know that this blog is not dead or rotting.
Until next time, see ya!
If rainy days and Mondays always get you down, today is a double shot! It’s Monday and it has done nothing but rain all day long. With nothing to do outside, I’ve pretty much sat inside all day and bounced around forums, set up this blog, and now I am blogging away.
The blog set up went pretty smooth, I just had a little difficulty with my rss feed. It didn’t want to work right. However, I figured it out. I had not set up my user information and when the entries feed link was clicked it would give a wierd error message. something about dc:content tag and <ADMINNICENAME> . Pretty strange if you ask me. But, alls well now and I’m posting away.
Until next time, see ya!
